CodeBook deployed on Canadian super-hospital

Cannon Design applies 'beyond BIM' technologies on 3.5m sq ft hospital

December 7, 2011, Portsmouth, RI, USA:  Cannon Design is deploying CodeBook, a toolset that boosts the value of building information modeling (BIM) software applications, in the design of a new 3.5 million square foot hospital in Montreal, Canada. CDV Systems, a technology systems consultancy and North America distributor of CodeBook, is supporting Cannon Design's use of the system.

Cannon Design is part of the project consortium, which also includes DCYSA Architecture + Design, Innisfree, OHL Construction Canada, and Laing O'Rourke Canada Ltd. The project is the largest public-private partnership (P3) commissioned in North America.

Integrated with industry standard CAD and BIM design tools, CodeBook links to models, shares data and gives detailed reports and validations throughout the design and construction of a project. By providing a bridge between owners, designers and contractors and the facility managers responsible for future operation and maintenance (O&M), it promotes a 'whole life-cycle' approach to procurement, delivery and operation of complex buildings.

Jill Bergman, Vice President, Cannon Design says:

Codebook augments the team's BIM tools and leverages the database across the project, for equipment schedules room data management into the design process. Managing all of the room types and repetitive data across this large project, we needed an application that would help us validate the model outputs, automating the review, and ensuring compliance with the hospital's emerging standard specifications for each type of space, without having to manually count or track anything. We also know our client will use this database for facility management after we deliver this project.

At 3.5 million square feet of space, this healthcare facility will have the ability to serve 345,000 ambulatory patients, 22,000 inpatients and 65,000 emergency patients per year. This hospital will also feature 770 single-patient rooms, ambulatory and diagnostic centers, surgery, intensive care, clinical laboratories and a research center for over 35 medical disciplines. One of the largest academic medical centers in North America, it is scheduled to open in 2016.
